Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Ink Infielder and Ex-Yankee Minor Leaguer Brett Barrera

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League has signed infielder Brett Barrera, a former New York Yankees farmhand and Stanford baseball product, the team recently announced on social media.

The 23-year-old played with the Oakland Ballers of the Pioneer League in 2024, smacking .356 with 23 home runs, 91 RBI, a 1.058 OPS, and .618 slugging percentage in 89 games.

The Yankees selected Barrera in the 8th round of the 2022 MLB Amateur Draft and he played for their Florida Complex League Rookie League affiliate and the Tampa Tarpons, the Yankees’ Single-A outpost, during his two seasons with the organization. While with New York, he displayed a solid glove, posting a .981 fielding percentage.

Additionally, Barrera suited up for Stanford, where he batted .351 with 11 longballs and drove in 53 runs in 63 contests.
