In between my sports writing, I love to frequent restaurants all over the New Jersey/New York area and write about them.
This time out, I hit three food establishments in Morris County, New Jersey, to satisfy my tastebuds while reporting back to my loyal readership.
Bon Appétit, baby.
Fable & Flame — 143 Main Street, Madison, N.J. — (973) 251-9133 — Open from Monday through Saturday from noon to 8:00 p.m.
What do you do when your vegan restaurant, The Hidden Chickpea, does not work out?
You pivot and open up a burger and fries joint that also features creamy, tasty milk shakes at the same location.

Fable & Flame, which opened a few months ago, also serves up delicious, crispy onion rings as well as cheese steaks, such as the Truffle Tale–a classic thin-sliced ribeye with cheddar, caramelized onions, creamy truffle sauce, and sauteed mushrooms on a toasted roll.
For the non-carnivore people, such as myself, there is the Enchanted Garden V–a falafel burger with hummus, garlic ailoli, avocado, arugula, and house pickled onions. I enjoyed this vegan burger, a dish left over from the Hidden Chickpea, and found it to be something I would go back and get again.
Furthermore, I was so hungry, that I ordered the Flamin’ Cheese, a grilled cheese sandwich served on toasted brioche bun. It was a nice, lick-smacking way to top off my meal.
Mangiano Pizza Restaurant — 102 E Hanover Ave, Cedar Knolls, N.J. — Open seven days from 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Mangiano Pizza Restaurant is a gem of a find located in the Cedar Knolls, New Jersey, area.
I ordered Margarita and Napolitano (round) slices.
As for the Margarita slice, the sauce was the first thing that made the offering memorable for me, savory and delicious and all, the true mark of starting off the pizza perfection experience.
Next, the crust was crispy, with just the right amount of crunch, and not too doughy.
Finally, the extremely thin, succulent mozzarella and fresh basil hit the spot for me.
The Napolitano capped my pizza experience with an exclamation point.
Tony Boys Sandwich House — 90 Park Ave., Madison N.J. — call 973.434.9304 for delivery. Open from Monday – Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
I have been meaning to visit Tony Boys for some time now. So, I had a hankering for something delicious and different, and off I went.
I ordered the Shrek Wrap — a whole wheat wrap with avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato, red onions, fresh mooz, roasted peppers and red wine vinaigrette.
A sizable portion, like Shrek’s mammoth head, the veggie wrap did not disappoint in the least bit.
All the fresh ingredients blended well together, with the avocado and mooz highlighting the tasty offering. The wrap alone made the trip all worth it.
From there, my girlfriend Maggie ordered an eggplant hero–fried eggplant topped with scrumptious red sauce and mooz in an Italian hero. It was another delectable hit.
Tony Boys also sports a location in Livingston, New Jersey.
