Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League have re-signed Long Islander Tyler Osik after playing 12 games with the Ducks last season, today the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.
He amassed eight hits, drove in eight runs, scored one run and drew four walks at the plate, and he did not commit an error in the field, spending time at catcher, first base and left field.
Long Island manager Lew Ford is thrilled to have Osik back into the fold, especially since he will be playing in his own backyard during the 2025 campaign.
“We are happy to welcome Tyler back to the team,” Ford said on LIDucks.com. “It’s always exciting to have ballplayers from Long Island get the chance to play for their hometown team.”
Osik, a Port Jefferson native, batted .318 with one home run, 20 RBI, 17 runs, 41 hits, nine doubles, nine walks and a .782 OPS in 33 contests with the Quebec Capitales of the Frontier League in 2024.
The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Osik in the 40th round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Chipola College in Marianna, Florida, and the Chicago White Sox in the 27th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur.
Osik, the son of 10-year MLB veteran Keith Osik, played at Shoreham-Wading River High School on Long Island, where he helped his club capture the Suffolk County Class-A championship in 2012.
The Ducks open the 2025 regular season on Friday, April 25, at 6:35 p.m. against the Lancaster Stormers.
