Freshman Richie Martinez of Onondaga Community College Men’s Lacrosse (N.Y.) program scored a game-best five goals and added an assist in the Lazers’ lopsided 30-0 shutout victory over Mohawk Valley in their season opener Wednesday at home at Wilbur Field.
Martinez–who was a two-sport athlete at Wallkill High School in Wallkill, New York, and a Hampton transfer–also picked up four ground balls in the win.
Additionally, Martinez earned All-American honors in lacrosse in 2022.
Onondaga (1-0) blitzed the Hawks (0-1) with 18 tallies in the first half. The rest was academic, as the Lazers never let up their offense efforts in the second half, winning going away.
Freshman Bruce Benedict and sophomore Cy Deer recorded four goals apiece.
Onondaga travels to Long Island, New York, to face Nassau Community College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
