The Sussex County Miners of the independent Frontier League have reloaded, adding four players — Jackson Balzan, Chad Gartland, Keenan O’Brien and Dan Kiritsis–to the fold for the 2025 Frontier League season, yesterday the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Balzan, who was born in Medford, N.J., will begin his professional career after posting a 3-2 record with a 2.69 ERA in 63.2 innings of work in 24 games with the Trenton Thunder of the MLB Draft League in 2024.
Before that, the 5-foot-10, 200-pound lefty pitched for Seton Hall University, going 2-1 with a 2.96 ERA in 48.2 frames in 18 contests.
Gartland, 23, pitched for George Mason University for three years, putting up a 3-5 mark in 48.2 innings in 14 tilts last season.
O’Brien last played for the Lexington Legends of the independent Atlantic League as a catcher and hit one home run, drove in 25 runs and stole seven bases in 257 at-bats in 77 games in the 2024 campaign.
Plus, he suited up for Corban University of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for three years at the school.
Kiritsis, another New Jersey native who played for the Trenton Thunder, put up a 3.18 ERA with the Thunder in the 2024 campaign.
The Pompton Lakes resident also posted a 4-3 record with a 4.25 ERA in 42.1 innings in 15 games with Felician University during the same season.
