The Long Island Ducks have re-signed right-handed pitcher David Griffin–a former New York Mets prospect who played parts of four season (2021-24) with the organization–for the 2025 independent Atlantic League, today the team announced on social media.
After seeing Griffin’s potential on the bump last year, Ford said he is excited about his return to Long Island in 2025.
“We were impressed with a lot of David’s work on the mound last season,” Ducks manager Lew Ford said on LIDucks.com. “He can pitch both as a starter and out of the bullpen, and we look forward to welcoming him back.”
Griffin, 28, went 2-1 with a 4.45 ERA in 12 games, four starts, in 30.1 innings of work with Long Island in 2024 after joining the Ducks in August.
Griffin began the year with the Mets organization, making five appearances between the Double-A Binghamton Rumble Ponies and the Triple-A Syracuse Mets.
No stranger to independent ball, Griffin, a Curry College alum, pitched for the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the American Association in 2019, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.58 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 27.2 innings.
He would get his second opportunity to pitch for New York’s organization after putting up a 1-1 mark with a 4.31 ERA in six starts with Gary during the 2021 season, earning himself a contract.
Long Island opens up the 2025 regular season on Friday, April 25 at 6:35 p.m. against the Lancaster Stormers.
