Staten Island FerryHawks Bring Back Former Wagner Catcher David Melfi


The Staten Island FerryHawks have re-signed catcher David Melfi for the upcoming 2025 Atlantic League season, today the team announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Melfi, a Wagner College alum who has been on the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award Watch List four times in his career, split the 2024 season between the FerryHawks and Lancaster Stormers.

The 24-year-old hit three home runs and 15 RBI in 106 at-bats in 38 games between both stops last year.

Melfi finished his final year of college ball as a Seahawk with four longballs and 20 runs batted in, in 157 at-bats in 47 contests.

 A four-year varsity starter on the Jackson Liberty High School (N.J.) baseball team, Melfi holds the school’s career record in hits with 127, home runs with 19, RBI with 106, doubles with 45 and runs with 98.

Additionally, he is a three-time Jersey Shore Carpenter Cup All-Star.
