Ex-Trenton Thunder Catcher John Cristino Inks with Yankees

The New York Yankees have signed John Cristino, a former Trenton Thunder catcher, to a minor league contract, the team recently announced on social media.

Cristino, a Voorhees, N.J., native, played with the Thunder (MLB Draft League) in 2021 and 2022, clubbing three home runs and driving in 15 runs across his two seasons in Trenton.

Last year, Cristino, 25, played with the New England Knockouts (Frontier League), now the Brockton Rox, and York Revolution (Atlantic League), smacking 26 longballs and 73 RBI with a .286 average in 367 at-bats in 96 games between both independent clubs.

He helped the Revolution capture the Atlantic League championship after the Knockouts traded him.

Before turning professional, Cristino suited up for three different college teams: Towson, Rowan College of South Jersey-Glouceste and Rhode Island.

Cristino lined a .439 average with three home runs in his senior year at Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, N.J.
