The Gastonia Ghost Peppers have re-signed infielder Richie Martin, and inked outfielder Dalton Guthrie for the upcoming 2025 independent Atlantic League baseball season, yesterday the team announced via X. Both players suited up for the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
Martin, 30, returns to Gastonia after hitting .244 with five home runs and 15 RBI along with a .755 OPS, while stealing 22 bases in 156 at-bats in 37 games last season.
Martin, an Oakland Athletics’ first-round draft pick in the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Florida, played in the big leagues for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019, 2021 and 2022, hitting six homers and swiping 10 stolen bases in the 2019 season.
As for Guthrie, the 29-year-old hit .254, drove in 12 runs, and recorded 11 base thefts in 51 games with Triple-A Worcester (Boston Red Sox) in 2024.
Before that, he played in 37 games with the Philadelphia Phillies between 2022 and 2023. The Phillies selected Guthrie in the 6th round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Florida.
