Gastonia Ghost Peppers Sign Cole Roederer and Ex-Met Connor Grey for 2025

The Gastonia Ghost Peppers have signed outfielder Cole Roederer and right-handed pitcher Connor Grey for the upcoming 2025 independent Atlantic League season, today general manager Brady Salisbury announced on their website.

Roederer played in the Chicago Cubs’ organization for seven years, reaching as high as Triple-A Iowa in 2023 and 2024. In 83 contests with the Double-A Tennessee Smokies in 2023, Roederer batted .245 with a .760 OPS, while smacking 13 home runs, driving 48 runs, and swiping eight bases in 286 at-bats.

The Cubs picked the 25-year-old in the second round of the 2018 MLB June Amateur Draft out of William S. Hart High School in Santa Clarita, California.

Grey, 30, a Frewsburg, New York, native who attended St. Bonaventure University–will be making his return to mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2022.

Grey pitched with Triple-A Syracuse Mets, posting a 5-6 record in 26 games in 104.1 of work in 2022. The 6-foot, 180-pounder made the New York Mets’ big-league roster that same year after he joined the organization in 2021.

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected Grey in the 20th round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft, and he pitched with the organization through 2019.
