Gastonia Ghost Peppers to Texas Rangers’ Farm System: Richie Martin’s Continues Hopeful Journey Back to MLB


The Texas Rangers have signed former Gastonia Ghost Peppers’ Richie Martin, Jr., and will shipped him to the Triple-A Round Rock Express, today the Atlantic League team announced via X.

Martin, a 30-year-old infielder, was hitting .318 with seven home runs and 16 RBI in 85 at-bats in 22 games with the Ghost Peppers before the Rangers signed him to the organization.

Martin, an Oakland Athletics’ first-round draft pick in the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Florida, played in the big leagues for the Baltimore Orioles in 2019, 2021 and 2022, hitting six homers and swiping 10 stolen bases in the 2019 season. 

Gastonia is 9-15 through the early part of the 2025 Atlantic League season.
