Team Lightning Melious AAU squads today and Saturday brought out the brooms in four-game sweep of its opponents, using a balanced attack from several emerging female high school basketball standouts to keep the oppositions at bay throughout the weekend at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn.
First, behind 29 points from 2027 Emily Salafia (St. Joseph by-the-Sea High School/Staten Island, N.Y.), 16U Team Lightning demolished NY Select, 74-47, today at KCC. Class of 2028 Hope Ziogas (New Rochelle High School/N.Y.) added 16 points in the lopsided win.
Game Three:
On Saturday, Ziogas dropped in 15 points and 2027 Lauren Leon (Brewster High School/N.Y.) also scored 15 to help lead the way for the Lightning in its final contest of the day Saturday, a 64-39 victory over NY Select.
Rising junior Maria Ribeiro (Hendrick Hudson High School/N.Y.) contributed 10 points in the game three victory.
Game Two:
Salafia poured in for 19 points and Leon contributed 16 points in a 61-40 win over Premier. Also, Ziogas added 10 points and seven assists in the Lightning’s game two triumph.
Game One:
Team Lightning Melious opened up the day by beating Florida Elite, 75-49, with rising junior Zoey Henry (West York High School/Pa.) pacing her team with 16 points, while rising seniors Giada Celetti (Saddle River Day School) dropped in 14 points and 2026 Sophia Elezaj (Immaculate High School/Ct.) added 12 points in game one action.
