Brooklyn Football Club’s (FC) women’s team has signed goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty to its roster for the 2025/26 Gainbridge Super League, a USL property, season, pending league and federation approval, according to a recent announcement on the club’s website.
Daugherty comes over from Celtic FC in the Scottish Women’s Premier League. The 28-year-old made 50 league appearances across the past two seasons. Daugherty kept 11 clean sheets (shutouts) during the 2024/25 campaign and helped the club qualify for the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Women’s Champions League.
Daugherty’s is a veteran player with extensive professional experience, having suited up for six clubs across five countries. In addition to Celtic FC, Daugherty played in Norway with Avaldsnes IL, in Sweden with Djurgårdens IF, and in Denmark with Fortuna Hjørring. Plus, Racing Louisville FC and the Chicago Red Stars of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) signed her to contracts.
“Kelsey is a proven leader between the posts and brings a wealth of international experience,” Sporting Director Kevin Tenjo said. “After several years competing at a high level overseas, she returns to the U.S. game with the maturity and mindset to make an immediate impact.”
Daugherty, a former University of Alabama at Birmingham netminder from 2015 to 2018, also played for the Long Island Rough Riders, a pre-professional developmental soccer club competing in the United Women’s Soccer league. She made 41 saves in 10 appearances and earned team Player of the Year consideration during her time with the Rough Riders.
Daugherty is pumped to be back stateside after her European professional stay, in which she said she matured on the pitch and also as a human being. But Brooklyn is where she is right now and is ready to be part of a winning team, she noted.
“This move feels right,” Daugherty said. “I loved my time overseas and grew a lot as a person and a player, but I am excited to be back in the USA and to be a part of building something special in Brooklyn.”
