In need of effective starting pitching, today the New York Mets have announced that top team pitching prospect Nolan McLean will climb the bump to face the Seattle Mariners at Citi Field on Saturday, per Mets MLB beat writer Anthony DiComo on X.
McLean, New York’s No. 3 overall prospect, posted a 5-4 record with a 2.78 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 87.1 innings of work in 16 games with the Triple-A Syracuse Mets. The righty sports a fastball that has reaches 98 MPH-plus, with a very good curve ball that offsets his heater.
The Mets selected the 24-year-old North Carolina native in the 3rd round, 91st overall, of the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft out of Oklahoma State University (OSU).
A two-way player at OSU, the Baltimore Orioles picked the 6-foot-2, 214-pound in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft but declined to sign him after viewing his post-draft MRI.
