Lena Girardi, Daughter of Joe Girardi, Breaks Freshman Record in Oklahoma State Basketball Win

Lena Girardi‘s last name should sound familiar to baseball fans, especially New York Yankees supporters, as she is the daughter of former Yankees catcher and manager Joe Girardi.

But the Oklahoma State University (OSU) freshman stood out for a different reason, as she drained nine three pointers, a freshman single-game record on the No. 22 ranked OSU Women’s basketball team (4-0), for 29 points in a 105-35 lopsided victory against Langston Thursday night at home.

The 5-foot-11 Girardi–who attended Grandview Preparatory School in Boca Raton, Fla., and hails from Purchase, New York–added four rebounds and two assists in just 30 minutes of action.

Girardi had combined for 21 points over the Cowgirl’s first two tilts.

OSU defeated Oral Roberts, 112-62, today at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
