St. Joseph’s University’s Women’s basketball team used a balanced offensive attack, with five different players in double figures, to blow past Pratt, 87-40 Friday evening at home in the inaugural Defend the Den Invitational basketball tournament.
It was St. Joe’s third consecutive win to start the 2025-26 campaign.
Sophomore Jasmine Chan-Clayton led the Bears with 14 points, and she added two rebounds, an assist and steal. Junior Mercedes Perez and senior Kristen Donovan contributed 12 points apiece, with four and six thefts, respectively. Sophomore Emma Centrella dropped in 11 points and grabbed six boards while Junior Judith Vila added 10 points, four helpers and four steals.
Sophomore Nikki Grech enjoyed an awesome game on the glass, pulling down a game-best 13 rebounds, and also had six points.
St. Joe’s (3-0) did not waist much time taking command of the game, establishing a 32-13 lead after the first period.
While the Cannoneers (1-2) performed better in the second quarter, the Bears outscored their counterparts, 17-14, to close out the half ahead by a score of 49-17.
In the third period, St. Joe’s held Pratt to only 13 points and added 38 points to its total to repel Pratt going away.
Freshman Lola Mactavish paced Pratt with 10 points, while graduate student Miga Higa and sophomore Anabela Jakelic scored nine points each.
The Bears host CCNY tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. in the final day of the Defend the Den Invitational.
