From Philly LLWS Star to the Pro Ranks: Mo’ne Davis’s Baseball Journey Takes a Leap After WPBL Selection

Mo’ne Davis, a Little League World Series (LLWS) icon and Philadelphia native, has been selected 10th overall by Los Angeles in the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL) Draft, today Philadelphia’s Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced on X.

Davis, 13 at the time, captivated and thrilled baseball fans across the nation when she became the first female pitcher to earn a win in the LLWS, as she used her 70 MPH fastball and other pitches to ring up eight batters in Philadelphia’s opening contest versus Nashville over ten years ago.

Now, who can forget that?

The 24-year-old, who was listed as a centerfielder in Thursday’s draft, also played high school hoops and college softball at Hampton University in Virginia.

It will be interesting to see if Davis toes the rubber once again for her LA team.
