Alexia Jorge, who played baseball at the Division III Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, has been selected in the second round, No. 20 overall, of the Women’s inaugural Professional Baseball League (WPBL) Draft by San Francisco on Thursday.
At college, Jorge held the catcher position for Saint Elizabeth and also played for Lyndhurst High School (N.J.).
The 5-foot-5 batter had a hit in ten at-bats for the Eagles as a senior, a solid accomplishment in a high-level college atmosphere. Plus, she totaled .188 batting average om NCAA action and is also the first USA born Woman to start and play in a full NCAA game.
Before that, Jorge was a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Baseball Women’s National Team in the 2019 Pan-American Championships.
Additionally, she even clubbed an exceptional Little League single-season record of 25 home runs over ten years ago, per source. Plus, Jorge suited up for the Coledgic Coastal Plain League (CPL) Salamanders, a team in the wood-bat summer association, in which she batted an impressive .333.
There are four teams in the WPBL: New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Boston.
The WPBL will commence action in August of 2026, right after the Women’s World Cup, which will take place from July 22nd-27th at Rivets Stadium in Loves Park in Illinois.
The WPBL is the first American pro women’s baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which ran from 1943 to 1954.
Saint Elizabeth posted a 16-24 record and went 7-9 in Atlantic East Conference action in the 2025 campaign.
