Tylik Weeks. who hails from Queens, N.Y., and plays for Division I Southern Mississippi University Men’s basketball team, has earned the Sun Belt Conference’s (SBC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, yesterday the SBC announced.
Weeks, who also suited up for Southwest Mississippi Community College, helped the Golden Eagles capture the Pensacola Invitational tournament title and led the team to two wins during the week.
Weeks averaged 25.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 34.5 minutes per game while shooting 22-for-32 (.688) in non-conference wins over North Florida and UT-Martin in Pensacola, Fla.
Additionally, Weeks scored 14 points in the title tilt, helping Southern Mississippi to a 70-60 win over UT-Martin on Nov. 23. Plus, he shot 7-for-9 from the hardwood and grabbed seven rebounds in the contest.
Weeks drained a career-best 37 points against North Florida on Nov. 22, marking the most by any SBC player this season and the 11th-best in a single game in school history.
Weeks attended Brooklyn’s Theater Arts High School at South Shore, where he averaged 7.7 points and 7.25 rebounds in 12 regular season Public School Athletic League (PSAL} contest in the 2021-22 campaign. In the playoffs, he added 19 points in seven tilts.
The Golden Eagles are 4-3 so far this season and will travel to Radford tomorrow for a 6:00 p.m. game.
