Emma Centrella’s Double-Double Powers St. Joseph’s Bears Women’s Hoops Victory Over SJLI


Sophomore Emma Centrella arguably played one of best game in her college basketball career as she used a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds to help power St. Joseph’s Women’s Brooklyn basketball to a Division III 64-59 over St. Josph’s Long Island (SJLI) Saturday on the road in Skyline Conference action.

Junior Mercedes Perez followed with 14 points and six boards, while senior Kristen Donovan added nine points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

The Bears (6-3) jumped out to a 20-14 lead in the first steals. St. Joe’s Brooklyn tacked on 19 more points to the Golden Eagles’ eight points for a 39-22 advantage at the break.

However, SJLI (4-3) played locked down defense, and, in turn, outscored the Bears 23-6 to tie the score at 45 all in the third period.

But SJBK took control in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points to the Golden Eagles’ 14 to ground the opposition in the end.

Sophomore Madelyn Barone drained a game-high 26 points, while junior Isabelle Lebron and sophomore Kallie Eichner dropped in 10 points apiece for SJLI.

The Bears travel to Manhattanville Tuesday for a 6:00 p.m. Skyline Conference tilt.
