Chatham HS Boy’s Hoops Stays Undefeated After Sizable Win Over New Providence in Final Day of Cougar Classic

It was easy to see from the get-go that Chatham High School Boy’s basketball team came to play against New Providence, as it held a sizable 22-8 lead after the first period.

The Cougars rode that momentum, along with 10 made three pointers, to a lopsided 90-45 victory Tuesday night at home against the Pioneers (0-6) in the final day of the 2025 Cougar Classic, to help them stay undefeated.

Junior forward Jalen Forehan-Kelly led Chatham’s offense with 19 points, while senior Sonny Arden contributed with 14 points. Seniors Marco Mannino and Michael MacAniff chipped in with 10 points and nine points, respectively.

After a dominant first quarter, MacAniff began the second period festivities by nailing a three pointer with 7:17 to go in the quarter.

MacAniff hit another basket to help build a commanding 33-8 advantage before New Providence snapped the long run at 32-10 with 5:08 to go in the first half.

From there, the Cougars outscored the Pioneers 17-13 to head into break up, 49-23.

New Providence junior forward Andrew Kruep banged home a trey to start the second half. But that did not deter Chatham from continuing to pour it on, as it received scoring contributions from eight different players to close out the third period ahead by the score of 74-39.

With backups inserted into the tilt, the Cougars’ offensive still managed to put up a solid 16 points, with senior Anthony Paone getting in on the action, as they dribbled away with the huge win.

Senior guard Grant Blankenbaker paced the Pioneers with 17 points.

Chatham returns to action on Monday at 7:00 p.m., as it hosts Union Catholic.
