Luisangel Acuña’s Historic Home Runs in Venezuelan League

With a plethora of infielders on the New York Mets’ roster, second baseman Luisangel Acuña made a case for himself for more playing time by clubbing four home runs in a Venezuelan Winter League game last night, the first player in league history to accomplish that feat.

Acuna, 25, batted .234 with eight RBI and 16 stolen bases in 175 at-bats with the Mets last season.

Sure, the aforementioned numbers are not exactly eye-popping, but Acuna, the brother of Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr., does have good speed and power, which could be handy off the bench.

Spring training will be interesting to see what happens, as Acuna vies for playing time in the infield with offseason acquisition Marcus Semien, Ronny Mauricio, and Mark Vientos, barring any trades.
