The New York State Sports Writers Association (NYSSWA) named Abraham Lincoln High School (Brooklyn) running back Izzy Abanikanda as 2019 High School Football Co-Player of the Year along with Jessie Parson of New Rochelle High School.
Abanikanda, a New York State football Gatorade Player of the Year recipient and University of Pittsburgh recruit, rushed for 1,350 yards and 20 touchdowns on just 136 touches as a senior as he guided the Railsplitters to the PSAL Championship Conference semifinals.
An overall offensive threat, the 6-foot, 195-pounder also caught 13 passes for 182 yards and three scores and averaged 36.3 yards on kickoff returns.
Abanikanda is already matriculated at the University of Pittsburgh, according to a source close to the Lincoln High School football program.
