Mets Choose Arizona Catcher/Utility Player Matthew Dyer with 120th Pick in 2020 MLB Draft

With the 120th pick in the fourth round of the 2020 MLB Amateur Draft, the New York Mets selected junior catcher/utility player Matthew Dyer out of the University of Arizona. 

The 6-foot-four, 187-pound Glendale, AZ, native, who’s described as a Swiss army knife-type of player, hit .220 (13 for 59) with 12 runs scored, four doubles, three home runs, and 18 RBI in 2020.

Additionally, Dyer led the Wildcats and ranked fifth in the Pac-12 in RBI.

As a junior, he batted .393 (66 for 168) with 46 runs scored, 10 doubles, four triples, four home runs, and 28 RBI. Dyer’s batting average of .393 was the second-best mark on the team and the third-best in the Pac-12. Also, he registered a .571 slugging percentage and a .480 on-base percentage, the latter of which was the fourth-best mark in the Pac-12.
