Mets Pluck San Diego State SS Anthony Walters with the 91st Overall Pick in 2020 MLB Draft

With the 91st overall pick in the third round of the 2020 MLB Amateur draft, the New York Mets chose shortstop Anthony Walters out of San Diego State.

Walters, a redshirted junior, batted .271 with one home run, eight RBI, and two doubles in 59 at-bats in 16 games with the in the Aztecs in the 2020 season. 

The 6-foot-1 infielder played one year at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, California after spending one year at Cal. He earned first-team all-state honors from the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) after batting .374 in 45 games with 10 dingers and 62 RBI with MT. SAC.

Walters also landed a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association all-region second team and was an all-South Coast Conference first-team selection. Plus, he slugged 20 doubles and scored 52 runs, helping the Mounties reach the CCCAA State Championships.
