Mets’ Recent Additions of Vargas, Hernandez Enjoy Terrific First Day in Rookie-Level Ball

The New York Mets’ recent acquisitions of 18-year-old shortstop Marco Vargas and 19-year-old catcher Ronald Hernandez for closer David Robertson, from the Miami Marlins, got off to good start with the Rookie-Level Florida Complex League Mets.

Vargas went 3-5 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base, while Hernandez had a 1-1 day with three walks, an RBI and a base theft today in the Mets’ 9-6 victory.

Vargas immediately became New York’s No. 7 prospect, with Hernández taking the No. 18 spot on the Mets’ Top 30.

Shortstop/second baseman Luisangel Acuña, 21, whom the Mets landed in the Max Scherzer deal from the Texas Rangers, immediately becomes the No. 2 prospect in New York’s farm system.
