New York Mets’ third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft, Nolan McLean, an outfielder and right-handed pitcher, crushed his first professional homer run, a two-run shot, and hit on Friday, August 11th, in an 8-4 rookie-level Florida Complex Legue (FCL) Mets’ win over the FCL Marlins.
McLean, ranked as the Mets’ 23rd rated prospect on MLB Pipeline Prospects Rankings, has played in two games so far this season, hitting .200 with 429 OBP, two walks and two RBI in five at-bats.
Baseball scouts, though, believe the 6-foot-4, 214 pounder’s future is on the mound. McLean, 22, sports a fastball that he can gear up to 98 mph with arm-side run and uses an effective slider in the mid 80s. He also has a solid upper-70s curveball, though his changeup, control and command are all works in progress, according to sources.
