Mets Claim Relief Arm Penn Murfee off of Waivers from Mariners


The New York Mets today made a potential late 2024 season improvement, as they claimed right-handed relief pitcher Penn Murfee off of waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Murfee underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in June, so he might be ready to go sometime in August if his rehab goes accordingly, per reports.

The 29-year-old posted a 2.70 ERA across 80 career appearances for the Mariners.

Murfee played three years at Vanderbilt University, with his first two season as an infielder before converting to a pitcher. He transferred to Santa Clara University for his redshirt senior season before Seattle drafted him in the 33rd round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft,
