Staten Island’s Nicole Melious Drains 16 in First College Hoops Game for La Salle; Team Wins


Nicole Melious, a freshman guard from Staten Island, N.Y., helped Division I La Salle University (Pa.) Women’s basketball team to a 73-68 open season victory over Coppin State (Md.) Monday in Baltimore.

Melious, who starred at the PSAL’s Wagner High School in Staten Island, N.Y., dropped in 16 points in 26 minutes on the floor. The 5-foot-8 high school scoring machine connected on three of six from behind the arc.

Aryss Macktoon, a freshman guard from Catonsville, Md., led the Explorers (1-0) with 17 points in 25 minutes of action.
