MBWA Bestows Baruch’s Castillo, NJCU’s Rodriguez’s with Women’s Player of the Week Honors


The Met Basketball Writers Association has named Mia Castillo of Baruch College and Damaris Rodriguez of New Jersey City University Divisions II/III Co-Women’s Players of the Week, for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3, today the MBWA announced.

Castillo, who played for Arlington High School and AAU basketball for Hoopers NY, also earned the City University of New York (CUNY) Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor, while Rodriguez picked up the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week award.

The 5-foot-7 junior guard from Pleasant Valley, N.Y., Castillio averaged 28.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 6.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game in a 2-0 week on the road for the D3 Bearcats (5-3). She has averaged 27.6 points, 5.4 helpers, 6.5 boards and 5.9 thefts through eight contests this campaign.

Rodriguez — a 5-foot-3 senior guard from Secaucus, N.J., –averaged 27.3 points, 5.3 helpers and 1.8 thefts per game in a 3-1 week for the D3 Gothic Knights (5-2). This is the Secaucus High School grad’s fifth career Player of the Week nod.
