It looks like Long Island native Anthony Kay will be headed to the Land of the Rising Sun, as the Yokohama DeNA Baystars of the Nippon Professional Baseball have signed the ex-New York Met pitcher, yesterday his brother, Bobby, wrote on X.
Kay, who pitched for the Chicago Cubs, and New York Mets last year, is 4-2 with 5.59 ERA in 85.1 innings of work in 44 games in parts of five MLB seasons, which includes playing for the Toronto Blue Jays as well.
The Mets picked Kay, 28, in the 29th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft from Ward Melville H.S. (East Setauket, N.Y.) and then again in the 1st round (31st) of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Connecticut.
The 6-foot, 225-pound hurler posted a 23-27 record with a 4.13 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 3.44.2 frames in 102 games for his minor league career.
