Super Bowl, Super Time: 2024’s Best and Worst Cities for Football Fans, Per WalletHub

It is almost that special time of year for football fans–the Super Bowl. It is a time when friends and family gather together to eat their favorite big-game treats and cheer on, or root against, either one of the two the teams that have made it to the tilt to play for all the marbles.

With Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nev., just days away, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its 2024 report on the best and worst cities for enjoying the sport.

Wallethub compared more than 240 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional football team based on 21 key metrics. The data set ranges from the number of NFL and college football teams to stadium capacity to fan engagement.

Pittsburgh, Pa., came in at the top of the list due to its legendary NFL team, the Steelers, who have won six Super Bowls, tied for the most victories with the New England Patriots.

Although college football has not been so historically successful in Pittsburgh, the Steelers have done more than enough to secure the top spot on the list.

Next, the Dallas Cowboys have helped to situate the Dallas as the number two city on the list. The Cowboys, who have captured five Super Bowls, are worth a ridiculous $9 billion dollars.

How about them Cowboys?

Locally, New York City came in at the sixth spot with the Jets and Giants making the greater metro area a hotspot for football fans.

With the Chiefs making it to the Super Bowl again, Kansas City, Mo., rang in at number 10. Of course, It has not hurt them to have Taylor Swift in its corner, now does it?

Unfortunately for New Jersey, Piscataway settled in near the bottom of the list at the No. 240 spot.

There is no deny that football fans are the most passionate people on the fandom totem pole in the U.S.

Wallethub analyst Cassandra Happe describes what the special criteria are for a city to be the best place for football in America.

“Football fans are intensely loyal to their favorite teams, especially when a team comes from their hometown,” Happe explained. “Deciding the best football cities ultimately comes down to a combination of how successful the cities’ teams are, how easy it is for spectators to enjoy games, and how dedicated the local fanbase is.”
