With pitchers and catchers soon reporting to spring training, the start of the baseball season is around the corner. You can almost smell the fresh cut grass.
The Somerset Patriots, the New York Yankees Double-A affiliate, have announced their promotional schedule, and two bobblehead giveaways are on the slate.
First up, the Patriots, on Thursday, May 30th at 6:35, will be handing out Jasson Domínguez bobbleheads to the first 1,500 fans, six and older, through the gates.
Dominguez, a switch-hitting outfielder and New York’s top minor leaguer, is No. 16 overall on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospects ranking list. He also holds the No. 27 overall spot on MLB Pipeline’s list.
The 21-year-old, nicknamed the Martian for his out-of-this-world ability, slugged four home runs and seven RBI with a .263 batting average in 31 at-bats in eight games in 2023 with the Yankees.
While with Somerset, Dominguez hit .254 with 15 longballs and 66 RBI in 425 at-bats in 109 contests in 2023.
Next, on Sunday, June 23rd, at 1:05 p.m., the Patriots will dole out Anthony Volpe Zorros Bobbleheads to the first 2,000 adults in attendance.
Volpe, a shortstop for New York, laced 21 home runs and 60 RBI with 24 stole bases in 541 at-bats in 159 tilts as a rookie last season.
A good combination of speed and power, Volpe, who hails from Watchung, N.J., launched 21 homeruns and swiped 50 bases out of 57 attempts last season between Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2022.
