The Sussex County Miners have signed Gabriel Maciel, a Brazilian-born outfielder, for the upcoming 2024 independent Frontier League campaign, the team recently announced on X.
Maciel, 25, last played with the High Single-A Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland A’s) in 2022, hitting .275 with one home run, 16 RBI and 12 doubles in 211 at-bats in 62 games.
Maciel has suited up for a total of six minor leagues seasons, clubbing 12 longballs, 133 RBI, scored 257 runs and swiped 93 bases in 1649 at-bats in 445 contests.
The then-18-year-old Maciel’s best year came in 2018 for the Diamondbacks rookie league affiliate after hitting .323 with an .827 OPS and nine steals over 52 tilts.
Additionally, Maciel particularly shines in the outfield, with a high defensive prowess, evident by his .977 fielding percentage (only committing 19 errors) in all three outfield positions across his entire minor league career.
The Miners kick off the 2024 campaign on May 10th at 7:05 p.m. against the Trois-Riveires Aigles at Skylands Stadium in Augusta, New Jersey.
