The Atlantic League’s Long Island Ducks have signed infielder Ivan Castillo, a former San Diego Padre switch-hitter, today the team wrote on X.
“We are excited to welcome Ivan to Long Island,” Ducks Manager Lew Ford said on LIDucks.com. “He is a versatile player who has spent time at three infield positions and all three outfield positions during his professional career.”
Castillo, 28, played with the Acereros de Monclova in the independent Mexican League, where he hit a home run and drove in three runs in 20 at-bats in eight games in 2023.
With San Diego, Castillo went one for three with a walk and RBI in three tilts.
Additionally, the Dominican Republic native has suited up with the Cleveland Indians, Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals organizations in his 10-year minor league career, reaching Triple-A with the Indians and Royals’ farm systems.
Castillo racked up a .263 professional career batting average with 32 longballs, 321 RBI, 409 runs, 840 hits, 154 doubles, 35 triples and 124 stolen bases in 903 contests.
Plus, the Florida State League (High-A, Blue Jays) and Texas League (AA, Padres) have named him to its Post-Season All-Star and Mid-Season All-Star teams, respectively.
Cleveland inked Castillo as an international free agent in 2012.
