Top-seeded New York University (NYU) Women’s basketball team took care of business on Saturday, routing Scranton, 68-46, in the NCAA Division III National Championship Elite 8 at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan.
Junior guard Belle Pellecchia, a Mendham, New Jersey, native, scored a game-best 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Caroline Peper contributed 13 points in the victory. Graduate student and guard Megan Bauman and forward Morgan Morrison added 11 points apiece, with Bauman chipping in with 10 assists and seven boards. Senior forward Natalie Bruns finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
Scranton guard and grad student Hannah Angelini and sophomore guard Kaci Kranson dropped in 10 points each for the Royals (28-3). Senior forward Maddy Ryan added seven points in the defeat.
The Violets (29-0) are back in the Final Four since 2007 and will be facing off against Transylvania University (31-0) in the National Semifinal on Thursday in Columbus, Ohio.
