Wagner College Men’s basketball team did it, winning its first ever NCAA Tournament game, defeating Howard University, 71-68, in the First Four of 2024 Men’s March Madness on Tuesday in Dayton, Ohio, at UD Arena.

6-foot-4 junior guard Melvin Council, Jr. led the Seahawks’ offensive attack with a game-best 21 points, while adding seven assists and five rebounds in the victory. Sophomore Julian Brown contributed 15 points, and sophomore Keyontae Lewis and junior Tahron Allen scored ten points each.

While the Bisons tested Wagner down the stretch, the Seahawks clung on to victory in the waning moments of the affair.

Wagner advances to first round of the tournament, as the Seahawks will have the daunting task of taking on the top-seeded North Carolina Tarheels on Thursday at 2:45 p.m. in Charlotte, North Carolina.
