Righty Matt Seelinger Inks with Hometown Long Island Ducks


Right-handed pitcher Matt Seelinger, a Westbury native and Levittown, Long Island, New York, resident, has signed with the independent Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League, today the team announced via X.

β€œWe are happy to give Matt this opportunity to pitch for his hometown team,” Ducks Manager Lew Ford said on LIDucks.com. β€œHe has impressed out of the bullpen throughout his professional career.”

Seelinger spent last year with the Reading Fightin Phils (AA, Phillies), posting a 1-1 mark with a 3.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 21 appearances.

In 190 career minor league games (two starts) with the Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays and San Francisco Giants organizations, the 28-year-old has amassed a 12-12 record with a 3.57 ERA along with 18 saves and 351 strikeouts to 125 walks over 257.1 innings of work. He reached Triple-A with the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in 2022.

The Pirates selected Seelinger in the 28th round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft out of Division III Farmingdale State College. He was the first player in the college’s history to have an MLB franchise draft someone from the baseball program.
