Brooklyn HS for Law and Tech Hoops’ Kyle Dhu Eyes the Next Level

After helping Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology boy’s basketball team to a 13-1 regular season league record and making it all the way to the PSAL A Finals, combo guard Kyle Dhu is searching for a new home at the next level.

Dhu, who averaged 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 14 regular season contests in the 2023-24 PSAL campaign, has been contacted by DIII programs such as Russell Sage, Plattsburgh, SUNY Adirondack, SUNY Polytechnic and Washington University, per his Aim High Eagles NYC AAU coach Blake ‘Blizz’ Gaston.

As far as Dhu is concerned, he is looking for a school that possesses solid academics and a good fit hoops program-wise, nothing less.

“Obviously, I want a good academic setting, just in case basketball doesn’t work out,” Duh, who averaged 18.52 points and 5.6 boards per game in 2022-23, explained. “I want a campus that feels like home. But I’m very open to everything. I would consider any place I feel that would give me the best opportunity.”

He added that a college that employs an offensive system similar to the one he played in at Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology, a fast paced, run-and-gun approach, would be ideal.

While that style of basketball required more endurance, Dhu said it helped develop his conditioning while making him a better overall player.

“That’s how we played in high school,” Dhu said of the up-tempo offense used at Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology. “My stamina is pretty good. In high school, I played pretty much the whole game. When you’re on the court more, you’re able to do more things. It trained my body to build more stamina.”

A versatile player who played his freshman year at Monsignor McClancy High School in Queens, Dhu said he does what his teams require of him, whether its scoring, rebounding or defending multiple positions.

“I’m more of spot up shooter, but I can drive to the hoop,” he said. “For my high school team, I had to guard one to five. We didn’t have any big bodies this (past) year. But I had to look to score because that’s what my team needed.”

While Dhu was not relied upon to be a floor general as a Jet, Gaston said his uncanny ability to crash the boards and snatch rebounds at just 6-foot-3, 155 pounds helped him create opportunities for himself and his teammates. Plus, his defensive ability and intangibles, not to mention his nearly unstoppable drive to the hoop, proved productive for him and his court mates.

“Kyle was not the primary ball handler for Brooklyn Law, but he was able to rebound the ball well for his size, which led to him having the ball and attacking the hoop,” Gaston expounded on Dhu’s hardwood skills. “He defends all five positions and moves well without the ball. He can get to the basket at will, plus is able to hit a mid-range jump shot.”

Meanwhile, Dhu is planning to hit the weightroom to add more strength and size to his frame, while getting ready for the next phase of his life, in the classroom and on the court.

“I’m looking for a good education and team environment, with a staff that pushes me to reach the next level,” the Ozone Park, Queens native said. “Somewhere I feel at home.”
