The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the New York Mets’ Double-A Eastern League affiliate, poured on the offense, pounding out 11 hits in their 9-3 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Saturday afternoon at Mirabito Stadium. It was Binghamton’s first win of the young season.
Rumble Ponies first baseman J.T. Shwartz led their offense with a 2-4 performance, a walk and three RBI. Outfielder Matt Rudick stroked 2-4 with a base on ball, two RBI and a run scored, while designated hitter Rhylan Thomas, the Mets’ 30th-ranked prospect, went 2-4 with a walk and three runs scored.
Catcher Kevin Parada, New York’s fifth-rated prospect, also enjoyed a terrific game, going 2-3 with a walk, RBI and a run scored. Infielder Wyatt Young slugged a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning.
The bullpen did the rest to secure the victory, as Junior Santos (1-0) fired three hitless innings and Wilkin Ramos earned his first save with three scoreless frames.
