The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) yesterday named Jackie Bradley, Jr., formerly of the Long Island Ducks, and Luis Castro of the Staten Island FerryHawks as its July Co-Players of the Month.
Bradley, Jr., an outfielder, enjoyed a tremendous month, leading the league in July with a incredible .500 batting average with eight home runs and 20 RBI. He was in the midst of the third-longest hitting streak in ALPB history at 28 games when the New York Mets purchased his contracts from the Ducks.
Bradley, Jr., an ex-MLBer who has played 11 years in “The Show,” is currently with the Triple-AAA Syracuse Mets. The 34-year-old has slugged two longballs and driven in two runs in 25 at-bats so far this season.
Luis Castro, the FerryHawks’ versatile infielder, who hit .420 with eight home runs and 20 RBI in July, is sharing the accolade with Bradley, Jr.
Additionally, Gastonia left-handed pitcher Nick Horvath and Lancaster Stomers’ southpaw starter/reliever Max Green shared the July Pitchers of the Month in the ALPB honors.
“As the season progresses, we see truly outstanding players performing at a very high level,” ALPB President Rick White said in a press release. “These four players stood out among a group of nominees who are all playing at the top of their game.”
