Sussex County Miners (N.J.) utility player Gehrig Ebel smacked his first professional home run over the left field wall in the Miners’ 7-2 win over host Trois-Rivières Aigles yesterday in Frontier League Professional Baseball action.
In a small sample size, Ebel, 23, has one dinger, two RBI and scored five runs in 36 at-bats across 13 pro contests so far this season.
Ebel played colligate baseball at Virginia Tech as a catcher, batting .325 with 12 longballs, 31 RBI and a .420 OBP in 154 at-bats in 47 games played as a senior this past campaign.
He totaled a .271 averaged with 14 homers, 45 RBI and .386 OBP in 284 at-bats over 121 affairs in four years as a Hokie.
The Miners (31-60) and Aigles (42-48) return to action tonight at 7:05 p.m.
