Poly Prep Grad Channing Austin Impresses in FCL Mets Bridge League Debut

After signing with the New York Mets in late July as an undrafted free agent out of University of Southern California (USC), righty Channing Austin made his Bridge League debut in the Florida Complex League.

The former Poly Prep Country Day School graduate struck out two hitters in an inning, while reaching 96 MPH on the radar gun Wednesday against the Cardinals.

Austin played summer ball for the Major League Baseball Draft League’s Trenton Thunder, where he posted a 1-1 record with a 3.00 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 15 innings of work in eight games.

Austin played third base for Poly Prep in Brooklyn. He also played for Team NY at the National High School Baseball Championship in Houston in 2019.

Additionally, undrafted free agent pitchers Hoss Brewer (2), Hayden Cooper (3) and Eldridge Armstrong III (1), along with 2024 19th round pick Frank Elissalt (1) all made their debuts, recording seven whiffs combined in the contest.
