Amaya Ross Leads New Dorp Hoops to Victory with Impressive Double-Double Performance


New Dorp High School (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Team Lightning Melious AAU forward Amaya Ross enjoyed a game for the ages, as she paced her high school team with a double-double to help it earn a 70-55 victory over previously undefeated Tottenville (5-1) Wednesday night at home in PSAL 4A Conference action.

Ross dropped in 20 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, made five steals with three blocks and two assists in the Central Cougars’ (3-1) win.

Senior Jordanna Schrecker, who is committed to Sacred Hearts, contributed 23 points,11 boards and eight helpers, while junior Sabrina Desio added 11 points.

Junior Araya Lichtman scored a game-high 25 points, and sophomore Grace Anderson added 15 in the Pirates’ defeat.

New Dorp hosts Curtis Saturday at 1:00 p.m., while Tottenville travels to Moore High School Sunday for a 7:45 p.m. game.
