The Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League have signed veteran right-handed pitcher John Gant, who played six seasons in MLB, for the upcoming season, today the team announced on LIDucks.com.
Ducks’ manager Lew Ford believes Gant’s past experience will bode well for him and the club in 2025.
“We are excited to welcome John to Long Island,” Ford said on LIDucks.com. “He enjoyed plenty of success at the game’s highest level and will add a wealth of experience and knowledge to our clubhouse.”
The 32-year-old pitched with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan during the 2023 season.
Gant’s MLB service time includes stints with the Atlanta Braves (2016), St. Louis Cardinals (2017-21) and Minnesota Twins (2021). Gant posted a 24-26 mark with a 3.89 ERA, three saves and 325 strikeouts over 372.2 innings pitched in 173 games.
The New York Mets originally selected Gant in the 21st round of the 2011 MLB amateur draft.
