The Long Island Ducks have signed former MLB left-handed pitcher Bernardo Flores, Jr. for the upcoming 2025 Atlantic League season, today the team announced via social media.
Long Island manager Lew Ford is pumped to add a guy like Flores, whom, he said, owns a lively arm and is a versatility, veteran presence.
“Bernardo has a strong arm and a wealth of experience in many different roles,” Ford said on LIDucks.com. “We are excited to add him to our pitching staff.”
Flores, 29, had played in the Mexican League with three different teams over the past two seasons. He struck out 48 batters in 74.1 innings of work during that time span.
Also, Flores appeared in MLB with the Chicago White Sox in 2020 and the St. Louis Cardinals in 2021, coming out the bullpen three times.
Additionally, he had pitched for the Colorado Rockies, Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers organizations, reaching Triple-A with each club. In 103 games (94 starts) over five different MLB organizations, the California native had posted a 29-32 mark with a 3.57 ERA, one complete game and 401 strikeouts to 136 walks in 504.1 frames.
The Chicago White Sox selected Flores in the seventh round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft out of the University of Southern California.
The Ducks open up the 2025 regular season on Friday, April 25 at 6:35 p.m. against the Lancaster Stormers.
