The Kane County Cougars of the independent American Association have signed right-handed pitcher Brett Phillips, who played the outfield for the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles, and Los Angeles Angels during his seven-year MLB career.
With raw pitching tools, Phillips, 30, has started his conversion into climbing the bump, with a brief stint with the New York Yankees’ Tampa Tarpons, the team’s Single-A affiliate, in 2024.
Additionally, Phillips posted a career batting average of .270 with 105 home runs and 444 RBI in his 1572-game minor league career.
The Houston Astros selected Phillips in the 6th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Seminole High School in Seminole, Florida.
