Ex-Mets Prospect Drew Gilbert Makes MLB Debut with San Francisco

Former New York Mets prospect and center fielder Drew Gilbert made his MLB debut with the San Francisco Giants Friday night after the Giants acquired him, along with pitchers Jose Butto and Blade Tidwell, last week in a deal that sent reliever Tyler Rogers to New York.

Gilbert went 0-4 in a San Francisco 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals last night at home.

Gilbert had played in five games with the Giants’ Triple-A Sacramento River Cats, and in 14 at-bats, the 24-year-old held an impressive .500 batting average, .650 on-base percentage, .857 slugging percentage, and a robust 1.507 OPS while driving in two runs and stealing two bases.

The Mets acquired Gilbert when they dealt future Hall of Fame pitcher Justin Verlander to the Astros in exchange for him and Ryan Clifford at the 2023 trade deadline.

The St. Paul, Minn., native was the Houston Astros 1st round selection of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
