Brooklyn FC Women Draw Against Spokane Zephyr in Thrilling Match

On Wednesday night at Maimonides Park in Coney Island, Brooklyn—Brooklyn Football Club (Brooklyn FC) women played to a 1–1 draw against Spokane Zephyr FC (0-2-1) in USL Gainbridge Super League action.

Spokane midfielder Emma Jaskaniec took upon herself as she blasted a shot from a distance past Brooklyn goalkeeper Bre Norris that the knotted the match in stoppage time. But the game stood even the rest of the way.

In the 28th minute, Brooklyn goalkeeper Bre Norris kept the match scoreless with a key close-range save on Spokane’s Ally Cook.

But Brooklyn (1-1-1) broke through in the 56th minute, when midfielder Emma Loving bent a right-footed shot into the top left corner from outside the box.

Loving said that she has been feeding off the positive vibes from her teammates and the fans, something that has helped bond and fuel the club so far this season.

“It’s a contagious energy,” Loving said of the team’s competitive drive in a press release. “I think one of our core identities as a team… is grit. And I think all of us feel that, and we’re passionate about the team, passionate about the person you’re fighting next to, and you’ll do everything you can for that person.”

Brooklyn, however, did have its chance to take a two-goal lead, but Spokane goalkeeper Hope Hisey thwarted forward Ana Markovic’s header in the 69th minute of action.

While disappointed with the result, head coach Tomás Tengarrinha took solace in the way his club performed in the second half and will get another opportunity to rectify itself next time out.

“I think we were so much better in the second half,” Tomás Tengarrinha said. “And it’s what it is. Football has a very cool thing that sometimes we don’t have in life, that we have a new life every single next game. We have that. And so, we will have that again on Sunday, and we’ll see what we can do.”

Brooklyn will travel to face Lexington SC at 2:00 p.m. ET. on Sunday, September 7.
