Long Island Ducks Sign All-Star Infielder Henry Kusiak


The Long Island Ducks have signed infielder Henry Kusiak, who was an American Association Baseball All-Star and Rookie Hitter of the Year as a member of the Chicago Dogs last year, today the team announced on social media.

“Henry has been a terrific hitter and defender throughout his career,” Ducks Manager Lew Ford said in a press release. “He is excited at the opportunity to play in the Atlantic League, and we look forward to having him in our lineup this season.”

Kusiak batted .309 with an .858 OPS along with 12 home runs, 47 RBI, 50 runs, 97 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, 29 walks and seven stolen bases last season with the Dogs.

Though known for his solid bat, Kusiak’s glove was as equally impressive. The 24-year-old posted a .967 fielding percentage while spending time both at shortstop and third base.

With the Windy City ThunderBolts of the Frontier League, he .277 with three homers, 38 RBI, 43 runs scored, 78 hits, 13 doubles, three triples and a .345 on-base percentage in 2024. 

Kusiak hopes to benefit from, and contribute to, the legacy of a professional baseball franchise long regarded as a model of excellence. The Ducks are the all-time leader in wins and attendance in Atlantic League history.

“I am excited to be with one of the best organizations in pro baseball,” Kusiak said. “I am looking forward to learning from teammates and coaches and being amidst the culture of success surrounding the Ducks.”

Before turning professional, the Illinois native played five seasons of baseball at Missouri Southern State University (2020-24), where he hit .348 and sported a 1.063 OPS.

Long Island kicks off the Atlantic League season against Hagerstown Flying Boxcars on Tuesday, April 21st at 6:35 p.m.
